Felted Hats and Peyote Patterns

Vacation is over, now it is time to focus on some new Peyote Patterns and the hats for Fall/Winter 2013-2014 season!

I love this new pattern for felted hats and you can find it at Fiber Trends, although I must tell you that I had to do some alterations on the pattern to make it fit the adult size. My suggestion at the onset would be to use an 11 needle rather than the 10 ½ and do use the Lamb’s Pride. You might have to do some stretching even still. I like my felted hats felted tight so that you cannot see the stitches so I had to make some adjustments. If you are going to needle felt on it afterwards rather than using buttons/brooches you’ll need to adjust to make it a little larger so you can felt it down enough for the felting needles to go through without getting a lot of breakage.

I am in the process of designing some new Peyote Stitch Patterns so watch for those coming soon. Once I design the pattern I have to make the bracelet so it can be photographed and with each one taking between 6 and 8 hours it takes al little tine to get these on the website.

I had a wonderful reprieve and went to Boston for a bit to spend some time with my eldest daughter, a wonderful woman with a kind and living spirit. Prior to that I had the twins, now 10 for several days and there is no work when they are here! We did manage to make dream boards after watching the movie “The Secret”. I had no idea they were listening but they really picked up a lot.

While I was in Boston and the girls were at the Taylor Swift concert, my daughter and I watched the movie “Silver Linings”. My daughter and I both loved it…check it out if you have not seen it!

I had better get back to work. I have 2 hats drying now and am going to begin the first of the new Peyote Patterns.

Golden Delicious Wool Hat

Oh so sweet, soft and warm. In the color of Golden Delicious apples this hat is just yummy! It is hand knit and felted to an average size of 21 inches. The beauty of wool is the memory it has. Get it a little damp and you can change the size a touch to fit you just perfectly.

Update from Divella Delights

Hello Everyone!I hope you are all enjoying your summer. It has been a tough few months with family difficulties and health issues but it seems as though things have stabilized and now I can really get back to work! Good timing too since it is time to begin the new Winter Hat designs for this year! I want to do some really fun and funky felted hats this year getting back to the 20’s and 30’s era.
I had a request for bead crochet rope necklaces so am going to do a few of those with some wonderful new lampwork and other embellishments. I am going to go ahead and do a few bracelets too so stay tuned!

Classes will start soon and I will be adding more info to the website.

Shortly you will see a “Tips, Tricks and Patterns” tab at the top of the page where I will post things such as my trials with different materials, good websites for supplies and some patterns for you.I will be going to Oregon for 3 weeks in August for a little R&R as well as a little business. When I return I expect to be doing several classes a week for 3 different age groups beginning at 9 years old. I did a trial run on my niece this Spring and it went very well. If you live in the Waterville, Maine area and are interested in the classes, shoot me an e-mail for more details.

Logan's Hat

A friend of mine at work did this painting and asked if I could put it on a hat.
It was my first try at something like this and I was tempted to say " I can’t" but I decided to give it a try. It did not come out exactly but I am pleased with it.
It was a challenge and a lot of fun so I plan to do some more of this type. Flowers are great and I like doing them but it is time to step out once again from the comfort zone and push myself a little…or a lot.
I used to do Sumi-e painting so I am thinking of doing some on my hats. They will truly be one of a kind pieces of wearable art. I should have some great hats next winter!

I have been having much too much fun!
The folks at Artbeads have featured me on their Facebook page, which I think was really sweet of them. We have been making great designs together and will continue to do so from time to time. I enjoyed designing that one so much I made another, pictured here.
In addition to the jewelry I am making now I am having a wonderful time playing with my hats. The red one I just finished I love and I want to do more like this. I will wait and see how it is received first because in retail you just never know. There have been things I have made that I thought were just fabulous but they did not sell well. It is indeed a tough business.
When I am finished with my contract at the State offices here I am hoping to take a trip and do some marketing…not my forte to be certain but I have to get my designs out there. The jewelry store here does extremely well for me and is surely my bread and butter throughout the year. Beautiful 1920s Felted Hats

I have been having a really good time this year making my hats and hat and scarf sets and have loved all the wonderful comments on both my ETSY feedback page and my Divella Delights website guestbook. The hat that is drying now however takes the cake. While I was twisting up the yarn this idea came into my head so I gave it a try. I wanted something a little more chic and elegant and to my delight, it worked. White I am waiting for it to dry I am working up a Turquoise necklace in the same style as my last post. It is coming a long very nicely. I just can't wait for that hat! All I can tell you now is that it is red, a color I usually tend to stay away from. Check back in Sunday or Monday for the necklace and mid-week for the hat!

Holiday Drawings

Felted Hats

Divella Delights has some beautiful new felted hats coming. This one sold in less than 2 hours so I guess I will be making more of the felted hats.
I begin with 100% wool, usually Cascade 220 but I do have some really yummy Lamb’s Pride wool as well. After I knit or crochet them, they are felted into a nice wool fabric. They take about 2 days to dry and at that time I form them to the shape I want. Next comes the embellishment phase, which is my favorite. This one was needle felted all by hand using a small barbed needle and a foam block. Some will have knit or crocheted flowers and leaves, some will have beaded flourishes. It all depends on what the hat tells me it wants! I will also be doing some clutches to match and I even have a pattern tucked away in my head for a scarflet.
